Very nice place, the owners are so helpful. If you need anything just ask they are so willing to please. Beautiful views

I'm giving them two stars rather than one because in their own minds they tried very hard to make us comfortable, and they really did do some things that were helpful for us. But I know we will never stay again (I guess won't be allowed to stay!) under the current management. I've not had such a negatively memorable experience in my 25 years of staying in hotels and motels.

The ppl who run this place are so nice and friendly. I found the room to be very neat, clean and comfortable. The new owners have done a great job remodeling. The dinning area is very open and clean. I would recommend this place to anyone who likes a home like experience.

Thinnest toilet paper I have seen, and TINY soap (size of a quarter)

There was a tricycle on the grounds that my 5-yr-old son started riding. Within a minute she came out to tell him to get off it. She did offer us some fish food to feed the fish in the pond as an alternative.

Good:

No housekeeping. Maybe this was written somewhere, but normally when we stay in places like this they do make up the room during the day. Ironically, there was an envelope on the nightstand to put 'something for the room service'.

This is the first review I have ever written. I feel compelled to write in the hopes that the new owners of Skywood Manor (since about March 2017?) can make it truly a beautiful welcoming place that it appears it once was, looking at the older reviews. The couple that now owns the facility did indeed take many efforts to make us at home. And I truly appreciate the efforts they took. But in the end, we have a bitter memory of our stay. The sense I get, right or wrong, is that they have their lives to live, and guests are a necessary means to that end. I'll summarize the good and the bad:

Beautiful location and grounds.

The topper, and the push that made me write the review, was the phone call I made after I noticed an extra charge. I was informed that we broke a lamp by throwing it on the floor, and the charge was to pay for it. I am quite certain this did not happen. It is true that the lamp in the second room did not work, so we brought the lamp from the first room over. When we brought it back the next morning, I left the non-working one on the floor so they would realize it didn't work. She claims that they check all items in the room and that it was working before we checked in, so we must have been the ones to break it. When I pointed out that the heater in the first room was not working (so apparently they hadn't checked that), her reply was that they don't offer heat in the summer, and that they were being very nice to make an exception for us. Now I agree that it is unusual to need heat in July, but it is NH, and the night did get down to 50. It seems to me that a host would naturally realize the guests would want heat under those circumstances, rather than feel they were going 'above and beyond' to accommodate us. In the end she said that 'we were not a good match' for them, and please don't book again. When I tried to respond, she simply hung up. I see from the most recent reviews that she said that to two other people. I have never had a host tell me not to come back. When almost half the comments she wrote on other reviewers say the same thing, I know it is not just me or a bad-luck visit.

Very nice place to stay.. close to all the amenities and many great hikes. The host are great and try really hard to make sure u are comfortable. It is priced reasonably and the property is beautiful.

We stayed in July, but the second of our two nights there was very cold (50F). Our heater did not work. They allowed us to move to a different room with a working heater for that night. In fact, since they were not full, they kept both rooms open so we didn't have to move all our stuff to the new room.

I was somewhat disappointed, having read several good reviews on-line. It was a rather cool day/evening and there was no heat because they did not have the furnace on. Also forget being able to watch TV as there is no cable or satellite and the streaming is extremely slow. The grounds are pretty for walking around although it was a bit cool to do so. The room itself was reasonably nice aside from the heat issue.

Bad:

Our reservation said breakfast was included, but it was actually was not. But she made muffins for us one day.
